Stranger Things Season 4 Stars Address Will’s Sexuality: “Zebra in a Field of Horses”
Netflix’s Stranger Things has come a long way since the first season premiered six years ago. In the intervening years, we’ve watched the four main boys grow up and grow apart. Fissures between the primary friend group were already present in the series’ third season. Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Dustin had girlfriends that consumed their time more than the Dungeons & Dragons they loved to play.
These divisions have become more pronounced in season four, with Will and Eleven living apart from the rest of the family and Lucas being made to feel like outsiders.
To many, Will seems reluctant to open up about his sexuality. Schnapp says the show’s reluctance to state Will’s sexuality leaves it up to the audience’s interpretation. He argues that viewers must decide if Will is refusing to grow up or if he is gay.
Will’s inability to fit in makes him an outsider in a group of outsiders. Schnapp says the series gives him space to figure things out, which is worthwhile. “It’s just nice to see that and have that shown on Stranger Things for fans to connect to and be able to relate to”.
