Kenobi Proves Star Wars Shows Need Video Game Tie-Ins Too
Obi-Wan Kenobi has all the ingredients that make for a good Star Wars video game, just like The Mandalorian before it. All that needs to happen now is for someone to actually make those tie-in video games. There have been few Star Wars shows since the first one came out in 1977, but there should be more of them if they’re going to continue being so prevalent. In the past, tie-in video games based on TV shows and movies were inescapable. Now, video games are made with more purpose, and are typically leagues better than the stuff that flooded the market 20 years ago. This is the perfect time for the Disney+ shows to get the same type of video games the Star Wars movies got.
Its story follows the same template that Bungie used to dominate the world with Halo, and shows signs of a video game in the making. A number of rumors suggest a Mandolarian video game is in the works, but only time will tell if this is true.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is the perfect character for a Star Wars video game. In the early 2000s, games starring major and minor characters on side stories were everywhere. Games like Republic Commando, Jedi Academy, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter were how LucasArts kept Star Wars in the popular conversation. The setup for Obi-Wan’s story is exactly what the developers would’ve dreamed up for a game focused on him.
The potential is there for some really fun video games to be created based on the characters from the shows. If it ever happens, it’ll likely be something special.
